Do you ever sigh in frustration and ask yourself “Why do kids hate vegetables ?” Planning meals for a family of little people is difficult. You want to provide them with yummy food, nutritious food, and food EVERYONE will eat. I’ve spent a time or two pulling out my hair trying to figure this stuff out. Now, I’ve compiled a list of my Top 5 Sites for picky eaters.
Catherine McCord created her site Weelicious.com in 2007 to solve what she termed her “New Mom Dilemma” she couldn’t find simple flavorful and easy recipes for parents to make for their young eaters. So, she put her culinary school degree to work and fixed her problem. Don’t let the culinary degree put you off reading her site. It’s fantastic everything from baby food recipes, snacks, lunchbox ideas, vegetarian meals, and creative ways to remake perennial favorites like pizza.
Real Mom Nutrition
Sally Kuzemchak created her blog in RealMomNutrition.com in 2009 to let other Mothers know it’s okay not to be perfect. You don’t have to have all the answers about feeding your kids and it’s okay if your kid prefers macaroni and cheese to vegetables. She keeps things honest and real. I particularly appreciate the fact she discuses her own dinner time struggles with her her kids. I highly recommend one of her latest post 29 ways to Serve Chickpeas to your Kids. The post has a link to a Chickpea Brownie Recipe that the kids actually loved. My son even ate chickpeas in a chopped salad after he LOVED the brownies so much.
My Fussy Eater
Ciara the founder of MyFussyEater.com started the blog in 2014 attempting to get her fussy eating daughter to eat a better and more varied diet and add some fun back into meals. I discovered her searching for “burger” recipes. My son would eat anything on a burger bun. The chicken and apple burgers are always a go to option in my house . She also posts meal plans. All, the work is done for us and it’s awesome. Read my Instacart Post and you can have someone meal plan for you then do the grocery shopping also.
Mom to Mom Nutrition
Katie of Mom to Mom Nutrition is another wonderful nutritionist and Mom who presents her information in an easy to read and highly relatable format. She’s going through the same things most Mothers go through feeding their picky eaters and shares her strategies and recipes with us. Our favorite recipe on her site is The Apple Bacon and Cheddar Quesadillas. It’s amazing to me that if I put a dinner on a tortilla my kids will eat it more readily especially if they don’t like the filling plain. We also just discovered the Elvis inspired hummus breakfast toast and it’s super yummy too !
Real Food by Dad
No it’s amazeballs but all family food blogs aren’t written by Moms (insert gasp here) . Matt Robinson of Real Food by Dad has elevated family food to a level I can’t begin to describe. He delivers delicious recipes that please not only the grownups at the table but the kids too. Lately his Dragon Fruit Smoothie recipe is on repeat at our house. His Everything Bagel Pizza on the grill is a favorite we just discovered also. Made twice in the first month posted because my son the child that thinks peanut butter and jelly is natures most perfect food asked for it! (Total Score in My Book) .
